Starting on Saturday 25th March 2016 Eurostar launches its new 3 times per week direct service from London St Pancras International Station to the South of France. Operating on Monday, Friday and Saturday the direct high speed services will whizz you to Lyon in 4 hours 41 minutes, to Avignon in 5 hours 49 minutes and to Marseille in under 6 and half hours.

The 3 times weekly service will operate between 25th March and 5th July (perfect for a late season ski break) and then increases to a 5 times a week service between 6th July and the 31st August on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. From 1st September to 1st November it reverts back to a 3 times a week.

Departing from London at 07.19 you can be in Lyon by 13:00, just in time for a bit of lunch in the Gastronomic capital of France.

The return trip leaves Marseille at 15:22, Avignon at 15:58 and Lyon 17:25. You will be back in London by 22:12. Taking the Eurostar is a stress-free way to travel and with a 3 times a week service about to launch it really is the perfect way to get to Lyon and beyond. In summer the 5 times a week service in is perfect for taking the strain out of travelling.

With prices starting at £44.51 for a standard single ticket to Lyon, they really do challenge those of the budget airlines. With convenient departure and arrival times it's worth considering the Eurostar as a reasonably priced alternative. Prices also tend to be less inflated during peak school holiday times so there is less of a penalty on families.

Unlike the budget airlines you can take on board more than one piece of luggage – bonus!

For as little as £20 extra (each way) you can upgrade to the Standard Premium Service which brings you the added luxury of service at you seat from the moment you board. Serving a continental breakfast and light lunch on outbound journeys and a snack and light dinner on the return journey to the UK, it really is a great way to travel.
