featured in News & reviews Author Elsa Carpenter, Antibes Reporter Updated

A quest for the perfect balance of authenticity, serenity and style. The ancient walled town of Antibes is one of the liveliest and prettiest on the Riviera, with a relaxed beachy feel, a thriving superyacht port and a gorgeous old town of narrow cobbled streets, markets and cafes.

Lying to the east of Cannes, it offers a calmer, more traditional place to spend some time. It has some wonderful old villas and a fantastic choice of boutique hotels.

La Villa Hotel, Juan les Pins lounge room

Hôtel La Villa, Cap d’Antibes

Sip champagne from the owner’s vineyard in decadent surroundings
Perched on the western edge of the revered Cap d’Antibes peninsula, Hôtel La Villa is a true haven of elegance and effortless cool with its crisp, modern architecture and sultry surroundings of Mediterranean palms and centuries-old olive groves. The hotel’s interior blends the contemporary with the classic; white-washed walls and rich, decadent furnishings in dark wood and antique leather.

Head outside and you will discover a quirky, hexagonal-shaped heated pool lined with loungers and hammocks for long days in the sun and an impressive al fresco bar area fully stocked with the region’s famous rosés and champagne from the owner’s personal vineyard in the Champagne region of northern France.

At just 2kms from Antibes’ historic town centre, four-star La Villa is the ideal location for those looking to escape the bustle of Antibes in the summer, but still be within a short distance of the town’s outstanding selection of beaches, restaurants and nightlife.

Sainte Valerie Hotel, Juan les Pins twin bedroom

Hôtel Sainte Valerie, Juan-les-Pins

A ‘du jour’ style of yesterday, today and tomorrow
This Provençal gem in the heart of Antibes’ closely neighbouring town, Juan-les-Pins, is a rare find. Despite the coupling, Hôtel Sainte Valerie's Provence traditions and history (the hotel has been owned by the same family for 70 years) with a stylish and ‘du jour’ design, the hotel has lost none of its charm or authenticity and has become a quiet favourite in the area as a boutique hotel. Three independent villas and 26 rooms (standard, superior, executive, suite) line the patio and garden, each with a view over the lush oasis below. Citrus, cherry and fruit trees offer shade for those hoping to escape some of the summer heat, while the ample heated pool, jacuzzi and bar area is a glorious sun trap for sun worshippers!

Family-run and priding themselves on their hospitality and service, all modern expectations and amenities are catered for, with luxury add-ons such as massages and beauty treatments available by appointment as well as a full laundry service.

La Jabotte Hotel, Antibes garden

Hôtel la Jabotte, Cap d’Antibes

Welcome into the Provence fold
Surrounded by nature - orange trees, mimosa, jasmine and lavender - Hotel La Jabotte on the eastern edge of the Cap d’Antibes is a place for refreshment and revitalisation. Run by couple Nathalie and Pierre, there is a closeness in La Jabotte that both welcomes guests into the hotel and also invites them into the Provence fold; there’s a feeling of ‘coming home’ here. With a simple but wholesome breakfast on offer to start your day, it is then just a short walk down to some of the most protected and private coves on the peninsular, but stretch your legs a little further and you can find the bustling sandy beaches of Antibes to the north and the glittering private beaches of the Cap d’Antibes to the south.

Built around a charming courtyard filled with flowers and plants of the region, the colours of Provence play a strong part in the scheme of the 10-room hotel, which is more rustic than luxe. Each room tells its own story, from the arts and classical music to nature and the night’s sky, with creative touches and a comfortable environment.

This is an idyllic setting for those hoping to escape the crowds of Antibes in the summer, but still profit from excellent access to the town and its attractions; a quirky yet quiet B&B destination full of warmth and a jewel of boutique hotel waiting to be discovered.

Hotel Mademoiselle, Juan les Pins lobby

Mademoiselle Hotel, Juan-les-Pins

Sweet enough to keep you coming back for seconds
A champion of cool design and unparalleled service, Juan-les-Pins’ Mademoiselle Hotel is a small but (very) well-appointed space. Oozing fun and style, each of the rooms is uniquely decorated with themes such as forest woodland, romance, the exotic, bourgeois, and fairy tales all featuring and delighting patrons with their individuality and consummate attention to detail.

Found a 20-minute walk from Antibes’ busy centre, but nonetheless, in the heart of the equally vibrant (if not more so!) Juan-les-Pins, this boutique hotel is just a stone’s throw from the destination’s famous white sand beaches and lively promenade.

If you have a sweet tooth, this is a hotel you simply have to try as Mademoiselle’s garden area is home to a ‘pastry laboratory’! In-house pastry chef and creator extraordinaire Alexandra hand-makes a delicious selection of cakes, biscuits, meringues and other irresistible delights every day, proudly displaying her freshly baked produce in the reception as well as serving them up from breakfast and afternoon tea. The smell is good enough to tempt anyone back from the beach for a lunch.

Les Rosees Hotel, Mougins double bedroom

Les Rosees Hotel, Mougin

Oozing traditional charm in the medieval hilltops

The 440-year-old bastide of Les Rosees Hotel in Mougins allows guests to immerse themselves in the Provencal history of the region, enjoying the traditional side of Cote d'Azur, only a stone's throw away from the glitz of Antibes superyachts.
