Chase the sun, late summer getaway in Antibes

When it turns cold, the sun still shines on the Cote d'Azur

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Antibes Editor Updated

For many of us, the summer holiday period is over. It's back to work, kids back to school and the first frost can be felt in the early morning...but don't forget that the sun can still be shining in other parts of the world and specifically on the Cote d'Azur.

Maximum temperatures in Antibes during September and October can still reach up to 24º C, with the water remaining a pleasant 25º C. You can certainly still enjoy the beach in October, so don't rule Antibes out for the half term holiday week.

We've put together a few ideas to help you make the most of your late summer break in Anitbes.

How to get here

With the convenience of an international airport only 17km from the centre of Antibes, flying is by far the quickest and easiest option. The regular 30-minute bus service that runs between the airport and Antibes means that you will get to your end destination quickly. You might prefer the comfort and ease of an airport transfer or taxi, and there is always the option of a helicopter transfer...quicker and far more stylish!

Where to stay

Many hotels in Antibes will shut in November and over the winter months through until March so getting a last minute booking for September or October could bring a few special deals your way. Some of our favourite hotels include the Royal Antibes Hotel and the family-run Hotel Sainte Valerie.

What to do

No trip to Antibes would be complete without enjoying a morning at the Provencal market right in the heart of the old part of the town. In fact, you may well want to enjoy more of the day here as you can sit at one of the cafes or restaurants that surround the market and enjoy some pastis and apero nibbles.

The historic port town of Antibes has a rich naval history that can be enjoyed in the various museums and by exploring the Fort Carre that sits at the entrance to the harbour. Amongst the famous artists to have been resident in Antibes at one time or another is Pablo Picasso and a museum dedicated to this great painter and sculptor sits in the heart of the town.

Where to eat

Once you've had your fill of delicious socca at the market, it's time to start thinking about lunch and then dinner. If a holiday isn't about moving from one meal to the next then maybe you aren't doing it right! The old town of Antibes has a great offering of pavement cafes, restaurants nestled down narrow lanes and eateries in the many squares and along the rampart walls. You will be spoiled for choice.

Take to the water

Did we mention that the water is still a delightful 25º C? Perfect for some late summer watersports such as kayaking or even diving. It might not be quite warm enough for stand-up paddle boarding in a bikini but that maybe depends on how hardy you are...

If getting into the water seems a bit of a tall order then why not consider just being 'on' the water. Chartering a yacht on the French Riviera will always be a somewhat luxurious affair, but with a choice of day hire or week-long charter, you are sure to find the right charter to suit your needs and your budget.
