After 25 hours of negotiations on Tuesday, talks eventually ended as Unions failed to come to any agreement with the French Government. The union SNCTA confirmed strike action for Thursday and Friday this week.

The last time the SNCTA union held a strike, back in April it resulted in over 40 percent of flights in France being cancelled. SNCTA represents  just over 50% of air traffic controllers and this confirmed strike action is planned to coincide with the start of the French summer holiday season, which could result in many holidays being disrupted.

In a statement Alain Vialies, France’s transport secretary, said he "deplored the action which would have a serious impact on both French and European air transport network as well as causing severe disruption as people started their summer break."
