Lerins islands waters offer up some monster fish
The last month has seen several monster catches in the waters around the Bay of Cannes, Cap d'Antibes and the Lerins islands. Perhaps it's time to dust off your fishing rod and hit the high seas of the French Riviera...
Within the first few weeks of August a Cannes fisherman and his son landed an enormous amberjack weighing in at 69.9kg and measuring 1m70 in length. Fishing off the coast between the Cap d'Antibes and the Lerins islands, the man claimed it took some 55-minutes to reel her in. With a fight on his hands, it was down to his son to keep control of boat, a true family effort.
In the last few weeks we've seen a second monster catch from the same area. Fishing off the coast of the Lerins islands another local fisherman took nearly an hour to get a 72kg ray out of the water. This gentleman favours the method of underwater fishing (fishing whilst scuba diving) and discovered the large ray when he was around 16m under the surface of the water.
This could be a good time to reconsider that sea fishing holiday that you've been dreaming off and try your hand with the monster fish of the French Riviera.
