There will be a huge amount of relief amongst passengers today as the threatened strike action by air traffic controllers in France, that was set to cause chaos across Europe, is cancelled.

A statement on the the SNCTA union's website reads, "After a last round of negotiations the SNCTA union of air traffic controllers, the majority union in the profession, has lifted its strike notice for July 2nd and 3rd."

The news comes after the airline Ryanair launched a petition calling on the European Union to take away the right to strike for air traffic controllers.

The past few months have been thwarted with strike action and strike threats, with tourists and holiday makers baring the brunt of the repercussions.

Passengers will be pleased to hear that the unions representing air traffic controllers said that agreement over salaries and working conditions had been reached with the transport minister.
